Grant Strategy, Design, and Production
Where Do Grants Fit Into Your Development Strategy?
A successful grant program is critical to the sustainability and health of nonprofit organizations. The Olin Group, Inc.’s Grant Strategy, Design, and Production service line raises millions of dollars each year for our nonprofit clients. Because many nonprofits either do not have, or cannot afford, an internal development team, this kind of outsourced development support is an ideal alternative.
Our methodology is based on a desire to build a customized and positive experience for our clients. The Olin Group, Inc.’s team-based approach to grant strategy, design, and production produces a high volume of grants without sacrificing quality. Because we work with funders and nonprofits alike, we provide a unique perspective on how to align the missions of each. In addition to conducting extensive funder research for ideal matching, we closely examine program design, budget, metrics, and outcomes to identify funding strengths and offer recommendations and solutions to mitigate funding weaknesses. Our ability to articulate the vision, mission, and passion behind services and programs is a key component to our grant writing success, as is our deep understanding of the philanthropic market. Each client receives a monthly strategy report to guide priorities and a grant report to track pending, awarded, and denied grant requests, as well as aggregate rates of return and return on investment. At every step of the way, we work closely with our clients to determine priorities, reinforce strategies, and communicate recommendations and emerging opportunities.

Are You Ready for Federal Funding?
Federal grants are not for the faint of heart. Rigorous reporting requirements, an increasing demand for collaboration and impact, and high standards for which interventions are funded means that your organization has to be ready to meet strenuous criteria. Still, there is no better source for multi-year, large-scale funding that focuses on critical social sector issues.
Assessing which federal grant opportunities are right for your organization can be an overwhelming task; hundreds of opportunities are released each month, and finding the right ones requires sifting through large amounts of data from multiple agencies. Our vetting process is designed to scan and identify opportunities that best match your fundable program interventions.
Here’s how we do it:
Define the Framework:
We begin the process together by helping you clearly define your funding priorities and establishing search parameters, including government agency selection, eligibility categories, and topic categories.
Identify and Vet the Opportunities:
On a daily basis we review all of the postings from multiple funding announcement platforms within your criteria. From this research, we send to you individual briefs that summarize each opportunity, including eligibility and actual application requirements, and link you to the full opportunity description.
Develop the Proposal:
If your organization decides that it wants to pursue a federal opportunity, we develop a detailed work plan that specifically accounts for NOFA requirements and delineates which partners are responsible for which components. We then serve as project managers, evaluators, researchers, and writers to help you craft a strong program design for submittal.
Track and Forecast:
We keep track of the briefs that we send to you – and the actual opportunities you pursue – to help us forecast what programs we need to keep an eye on.
